Rotala mexicana 'Goias'
Rotala mexicana 'Goias'
Rotala mexicana "Goiás" is distinguished as one of the unique red, low-lying foreground plants in the aquascaping arena. Believed to have its roots in the Brazilian state of Goiás, it has been identified as a variant of the highly diverse Rotala mexicana species. Although it has been recognized in the European aquarium hobby for several years, its limited availability deems it a sought-after rarity.
When newly introduced to an aquarium, its shoots tend to exhibit a flat growth pattern, sprawling across the substrate. However, as the plant density increases, it produces more erect stems. Depending on the desired aesthetic, aquarists can trim it to maintain a low profile or allow it to flourish into a broad bush, making it a captivating addition to an aquarium's middle ground. Pairing Rotala mexicana "Goiás" with green stem plants creates a visually pleasing color contrast. Given its delicate, small-leaved nature, it's an excellent fit for nano tanks.
